My magazine front cover for my horror teaser trailer:
Before creating my magazine front cover for my teaser trailer, I handed out four different pictures to 15 members of my target audience and asked the members of my target audience to give me feedback on which one would be the most suitable for my magazine front cover.
These were the pictures I asked them to choose from:
1)
2)

4)
When I recieved my feedback I had a problem as two of the pictures contained the same amount of votes and these pictures were number 2 and 3, so I had to make the decision on my own and I made the decision to choose number 2. I plan to see what the outcome is to this and then recieve feedback from my target audience and then decide what to do.
The Process in making my magazine cover for my horror teaser trailer:
When I begun to make my horror magazine front cover I enlarged the chosen picture to fit the whole of the background and added the title of magazine and the title of the film at the top and the bottom of the page. I put the title of the actual magazine at the top of the page so that the audience knew that this was the make of the magazine and that 'POSSESSED' was the name of the new film which was coming out. I put the title of the magazine in red as it stood out and the title of the film at the bottom and the best colour that stood out on that part of the background was white.
I then added a skyline at the top to make it look like a magazine and that my target audience would recognise it as a magazine and also to make it look different to my horror poster. I put the writing in red and black as these were the colours that were most voted for on my questionnaire, I also added another picture of the actress staring in my film in the corner as my questionnaire results told me that my target audience wanted to see lots of pictures on the poster.
After this I added a caption at the bottom to make my film sound catchy and very frightening as this is what my target audience would be looking for. I wrote underneath the title 'POSSESSED' 'rated five star!' in capitals to make it stand out and attract my target audiences attention but also so that they knew that the film was rated five star so I tried to put it in the most obvious place that they would recognise it.
I added the date that the film was going to be released above the title of the magazine but as I done this I realised that I had made a mistake as somehow one of the 'L's had been deleted from the magazine title, so I made sure that this was put back in the magazine and was checked over. After this I added two more pictures and put different colour borders around them in order to make them stand out and attract the attention of my target audience.
I added more text to make sure that I met the wants and needs of my target audience was met as in my questionnaire all of them answered that they wanted to see text on the front of the magazine cover telling them what would be inside the magazine. I then added another caption to invite my target audience into the magazine more 'BUT why is she after you?' I made this an unanswered question and directed it at the audience, I also made sure that the word 'BUT' was in capitals to attract the audience to read this caption.
My final magazine cover finished:
I finished my magazine cover by finishing the text on the front of the page and by inserting a barcode in the bottom right hand corner to make it look realistic.
However, I wanted to make sure that my target audience would be happy with the outcome of my magazine front cover, so I asked members of my target audience what they would change on my magazine and asked for their opinion on which would look better. So I made many changes which consisted of this:
I changed many things on the front cover which were:
- I moved the title of the new film to the middle of the page to make it more obvious to the reader that this was the new film being released, with the cinema date underneath so they know when it is due out.
- I moved 'Chilling, moving, shocking' to the left side to make it look like the writing was written on the wall of the house.
- I added a date and a price to make it look like a realistic magazine
- I deleted the pictures that were added on the magazine page as the magazine was too focused on this specific film, whereas I found out from my research that this would not be done.
But, as it can be seen this magazine cover is unfinished and this is because halfway through editing it I realised that I could make this better by using the other picture that my target audience voted for. So I begun creating my new magazine cover with the chosen photo and I plan to compare both of these when they are finished and then make my decision which one I am going to use.
NEW MAGAZINE PROCESS:
I decided that I would edit one of my photographs:
This was the original:
I begun my new magazine front cover by using the same title as my other magazine front cover as I thought this was an effective title. I used the same colours for 'THRILLER' and 'POSSESSED' and positioned 'POSSESSED' in the middle of the page aswell as I knew this would attarct my target audience more easily. I used the three words on the side of the page which makes it look like they are written on the wall, which is the same as on the poster so then my target audience can recognise this and associate this film with these words. I kept the barcode, date and time in the bottom right hand corner to make it look very realistic and like a real magazine.
I then added underneath the title of the film the caption that was visible on my original magazine front cover as I thought this would attract my target audience and they agreed that they wanted this to be kept on the front cover of the magazine. I also kept this in red as it showed up better and also allowed the title of the film to stand out. I begun by adding down the right hand side of the magazine what would be seen inside the magazine and I kept things that my target audience voted for when I gave out my questionnaire as these were the most popular options. I put 'CINEMA DATES' in captitals so that it would stand out and put the background red to resemble blood but also to make the words stand out more.
I carried on adding information about what would be included inside the magazine down the right hand side and changed what was my skyline to the bottom of the page as I felt it blended back in better. I also kept this writing red as I wanted to make sure I had the variety of colours (red, black and white).
AFTER ALOT OF THOUGHT I DECIDED THAT THE FEEDBACK THAT I RECEIVED WAS NOT ENOUGH AS I DID NOT THINK THAT THE OUTCOME WAS AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO I DECIDED TO ASK A CLASS OF 30 YEAR NINES AND AFTER THEIR FEEDBACK AND MY EDITING OF MY MAGAZINE THIS WAS THE FINAL OUTCOME:
I was very pleased with my final outcome and I am very pleased with my decision to make sure that I found out more feedback.
CHANGES:
When I decided to resubmit my A2 coursework, I made sure that my target audience had a change to tell me what they thought would be the main elements to my magazine so I made a small questionnaire to ensure that I could make the best possible changes to my work and make sure that my target audience were happy at the same time. However, at first I started off with a huge problem as my first decision to do was to was re take my photographs of my chosen model (the killer) but I had a major problem as when I needed to take my photographs my model was on holiday so I was unable to do this. So I made the decision to edit my photographs and designs in a different way.
My questionnaire:
1. Are you still happy with the current photograph which is shown on the magazine?
2. List 3 things which you would want to see changed on the magazine:
3. Is there any more text that you would like to see appear on the magazine?
My results allowed me to realise my target audience were still happy with the current photograph that was shown on the magazine and they did not want the photograph to change however they wanted the model to look more frightening so in order to do this I must make sure that I try and edit my photograph and make it look more scary. My target audience mainly noticed that the magazine text needed to be darker and wanted some of the layout to change. That was all I received from my results as my target audience did not give me any more feedback that they wanted anything else to change.
FINAL DESIGN:
As my target audience gave me feedback that they didnt want my main photograph to change but when I was browsing through the photos that I had taken of my model getting ready to edit the original, I came across a very similar one that was also the same pose but I believed it look much more scarier so I decided to use this. When I was editing it, I was also experimenting and I came across the black and white effect, I thought this looked very good for my magazine and made the red and white writing stand out much more so I decided to go ahead and use this effect as I personally thought that my magazine front cover looked much more attractive like this. I also knew that this would give my magazine an individual look and would stand out amongst others, giving it its own look and attracting more of my target audience towards this type of magazine as it was different. As my feedback allowed me to realise that members of my target audience wanted some of the layout to change, I changed various things around such as the date and price I moved to the top left and changed the writing to a more basic approach of 'RATED *****', other things I changed consisted of the main title 'THRILLER' to change to just red without a black outline to set off the writing of just red and white. I personally believe that my magazine has a much more different look and approach to it as well as looking more frightening.
